Shaving Kit Hacks

Shaving every day can be a drag. Keith moved his kit into the shower to save time. These little hacks have made the whole thing a little better.

The soap cake fits snugly inside and the top of the water bottle was cut so that the ridges overhang the lower part, preventing the water from getting in. You probably know this already, but suction cups are awesome. A clean tile and a light coating of soap provide a long, long hold. They fall down about once a year or so. Acceptable.

Speaking of light coatings of soap, that is also the key to keeping the mirror clear while showering. Paint it with the soapy brush and then a light hand swipe will leave a thin coating that is clear enough to see through but will stop condensation from forming.

David Ayers Pancake Revisited.

The on-line world is a weird and wonderful place, as we all are rapidly learning. Here's something interesting; type "David Ayers pancake" into Google and our March 2009 post on that topic is the number one search result, ahead of cooks.com and thefoodsection.com. Weird!

Welcome, all Googlers.

Today we used a smaller pan and watched excitedly as the pancake rose up the sides and curled above the edge, crisping golden brown.
Puffing up out of the pan!

Lemon juice and a light dust of icing sugar.

Okay, time to get serious. Amber (dark) maple syrup. Oh yeah.

Here is the recipe with a minor adjustment to the amount of salt, and some better wording for the method:

2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup flour
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 425. Beat together the eggs, milk, flour, sugar and salt.
Melt the butter and generously coat an oven-proof frying or baking pan. Not just the bottom, but the sides too. All the way up! Seriously.
Mix the remaining melted butter into the batter. That's better.

Pour the batter into the buttered pan and bake it for 12-15 minutes, or until it's all puffed up and golden.

Don't open the door till it's ready or you'll kill all the puff!

Serve immediately with maple syrup or lemon juice and icing sugar, or strawberries and sour cream. Or Cream cheese and orange marmalade, or cherries and whipped cream. Oh my goodness.
